Geocache Description:

Located near an interesting structure, erected as part of the historical timber milling tramway system. Please take notice of the signs and stay off the structure.

In the heyday of its timber Industry, the Upper Yarra had a network of timber tramways to carry supplies into the bush and timber, both logs and sawn timber out. They all linked up by one means or another with the Victorian Railways line, some directly some via each other. Some had steel rails, but wooden rails, using plentiful local material were more common, sometimes with steel sections on the curves, where wear was greatest. Several lines had steam locomotives, although horses were more often used, largely because they were cheaper and more reliable. In the latter days of their operation, some lines switched to tractor haulage. The walk/s to nearby caches is a rewarding experience.
