I'm late. I'm late. For a very important date. Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

RREngineer: Sorry to say but the cache was right where it was supposed to be located. It has cause a lot of head scratching and consternation. I have decided that I will close it out. Hope everyone had a good time looking for it and also seeing that wonderful clock.

Geocache Description:

Another drive-by-caching spot. BYOP. Parking close by. Rated by cachers at my event. You should stand on the sidewalk while searching for this cache.

The clock was manufactured. in 1859, by E. Howard & Co. Boston, MA. It was installed in the High School at Andover, MA for 100 yrs. After removal it was stored for many years until found by Josiah Hunt, who restores clocks. It then went to Island Falls Baptist Church in 1974. It caused bad feelings in the neighborhood because of the clock chimes. A sizeable donation was given to the church and Josiah Hunt took it back and donated it to Roger Hunt. It was then moved to Roger Hunt's business. The clock was erected in a tower and the store area became know as Clock Tower Square. When Roger Hunt moved his business in 1985 to this new location he brought the clock with him. Workers dropped and wrecked the tower beyond repair. Fortunately the clock was not in it at the time of the accident. A new tower was erected outside the building, and the clock is on view for all to enjoy.

Have you ever wondered what went on inside of those clocks that tick? Well then, this is the place to go. The clock works are in the base of the clock tower and can be viewed close up. The weights on the other side are for the chimes. They have been disabled because of the neighbors concern about the noise. The large link chain from the ceiling to the floor control the chime function. The rod going up through the ceiling is what turns the hands. The pendulum is what makes the clock function. Look for the small arm, near the top of the gear tower, that rocks back and forth. As it does this it lets the gear move one notch at a time controlling the pendulum rate. The 200 lb. weight, on the right, is what causes the pendulum to swing. When it is quiet you can hear it ticking.

And speaking of ticking. Your time is a wasting. You need to be looking for that cache. Good Luck.
