Geocache Description:

NOTICE Oct 2019: This cache is scheduled to be archived during or shortly after September, 2020.

NOTICE Aug 2018: Over the next two or three years I will be archiving all my hides. Age and health may not allow me to continue giving proper support for my cache hides and I do not wish to leave them in limbo after I am unable to continue. I am older and slower and will be approaching my mid 70's. I plan no new hides. As my existing caches go missing or are damaged those hides will be archived. Otherwise, all my hides are open for adoption to do with as one pleases. If you would like to adopt this or other of my hides then please contact me. I will not be archiving healthy caches for at least another year or so.

The Roadkill Café is a cabin located in the Thompson Canyon in a BLM area. Reading the menus on the cabin wall is a must. The Thompson Canyon Loop trail passes by the cabin. If you took the North loop you’ll reach the cabin before reaching the cache. The cache is located up a small hill just off the trail. Animal droppings, paw prints, and some animal sightings indicate this area is rich in wildlife.

The easy way to approach this cache is to park off Hwy 20 at N 39° 00.243 W 122° 23.461. This is the entry to a fire road which will take you all the way to the cache. No motor vehicles allowed but mountain bikes and horses are ok.

If you want a nice (but hard) hike which will up the terrain rating to about a 3.5 then park at N38° 58.900 W122° 20.923. This will double the time and distance required from the Hwy 20 enterance. You must cross Bear Creek which runs all year long so expect wet feet. You can pick up a West bound trail at the top of the far bank and follow it the short distance to the Thompson Canyon Loop trail. The North loop is a bit shorter than the South loop. You can plan on about 6.5 miles (a little less than 4 hours round trip) of hiking. Normal wilderness warnings apply.

Please be careful out there. This area is hunted. Check hunting season dates if you don’t like gun shots. On this path there are several creeks to be crossed. During the rainy season it may be very difficult and muddy to attempt this cache.
