This cache is located South West of Cromwell in an elevated location.
Directions:
The more historic way (recommended!) – park at S 45° 5.610 E 169° 8.363 Elevation 239 metres, allow 30 minutes to the cache although there is much to see on the way which will take longer. It is also possible to do a round trip exploring the whole gold mining site. Allow at least 1 ½ hours for this.
The easy way – park at S 45° 5.366 E 169° 8.363 Elevation 338 metres, allow 10 minutes.
The Cache site elevation is 344 metres.
The difficulty ratings are for approaching the cache from the historic route. From the easy route both terrain and difficulty only rate 1.5 as there is a style to cross
WARNING: this was a gold mining area. There are tunnels, shafts, cliffs and unstable rock slopes. In the mining areas please keep to the tracks.
KEEP THE CHILDREN UNDER CLOSE SUPERVISION AT THE CACHE SITE. YOU WILL SEE WHY.
In the winter the tracks are likely to be muddy. This area can be hot in summer. Don’t forget the hat, sun block and drink bottle.
