Church Bridge #3 (Essex) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lactodorum: Hi, this looks suspiciously like the cache has gone. Could the owner please undertake a maintenance visit to check if it's there or not. In the meantime I'm archiving it but I'll happily unarchive it if/when it's found assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Thanks, Lactodorum

Geocache Description:

This is the 3rd of the four“Church-Bridge collection” All of the caches are based on the part of Church Lane which was never adopted. Currently the road ends at the church but you can see from the 1881 OS map (and from your visit) it used to continue. The whole set will be a round trip of 4.5km be careful it can be VERY muddy (I mean VERY muddy) You have been warned

All of the caches are based around the part of Church Lane which was never adopted. Currently the road ends at the church but you can see from the 1881 OS map (and from your visit) it used to continue. The parish church of St. Mary stands about a mile from the village of Crays Hill The rectors can be traced back to 1257, when the first recorded parson was William, described as ‘Personna ecclie de Crei’

The path now (just to the east of the Church) is used legally for horse riding and illegally for motorbikes (hens the ruts along the path)

Walking down the un-adopted part of the road is like stepping back 150 years.

This final cache is a bit harder to find you will lose satellite coverage on the way but just follow the path (including jumping over a large fallen tree)

The cache is found in a big clearing.

If is in a Tupperware drinks container (large cup with a screw lid)

it originally held:

  • A selection of fridge magnets
  • A measuring tape
  • A log book and pen
  • A Un-made Kinda Toy
  • some marbles
