A Step Above Brumley Gap Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The_Curmudgeon: It seems most local cachers are more interested in finding city caches rather than going into the woods. Also, I have just about given up on caching. I am archiving this cache.

Geocache Description:

This is a LONG step above Brumley Gap. Elevation at cache site: 4000 feet. Elevation at turn off to Hidden Valley Lake: 2377 feet.

Cache is situated on top of Brumley Mountain near (but past) Hidden Valley Lake. In order to find this cache DO NOT take the turn off to Hidden Valley Lake, but go to the end of the gravel road. This road is suitable for the family Buick Roadmaster -- you don't need a 4-wheel drive truck to get to the parking area.

At the parking area, take the path on the right side of the Sprint antenna. Cache is about half way down the path.

For extra credit: Continue on down to the end of the path and visit the overlook. (N 36.49.157, W 082.04.763) You will have an unsurpassed view of Hansonville, Brumley Gap and Clinch Mountain. Clinch Mountain is one of those looonnggg Appalachian mountains and it stretches west all the way to Gate City. Please note that this overlook is on top of an out-cropping of rock and is unimproved (no fences). Children should be well supervised.
