Red and I where headed back to Unity from Baker City via Hereford to try and locate a cache when we spotted this chunk of Prime Oregon Real Estate sitting there without a
cache on it. Time to fix that. So we dashed out and hid one. Hence the name of the cache.
Nice little drive in the back country on Rd 11. If you have a rough terrain ride that is. No BMW’s or Volvo's need apply. Unless they are rentals that is. Did you get towing with that? Onstar maybe? Anyway, this cache is on top of a chunk of rock you can see from Baker City as your headed West towards, well, West.
I tried to drive all the way up. Did not make it through the snow/ice drifts crossing the East side of the road. My suggestion is to park at the cattle guard just as you break out of the timber and can see the radio shack at the top of the knob. It took me all of ten minutes to hike up to the top from this spot. Easy stroll for most people we think. If you head any further on Rd 11, make sure you have the right rig or a good cell phone. Or a yell phone.
The last pitch up from Road 11 will require 4x4 or shanks mare. At 6680 feet, getting the cache might stretch your lungs a touch.
Your looking for an old used .50 caliber ammo can in a black sack. Not a KFCC but a cloth type bag. Please replace the cache back into the bag before replacing the cache to it’s little hidey hole. We let the Mag sit at 6683 and average for 15 minutes so these numbers should be real close. I would list the items in it but they should change over time and then I would have to edit the cache page and seeing as I am lazy . . . . . . . I ain’t a gonna do it.
Now if you happen to spot some critters or a fantastic sunset or sunrise (yea, right. Who gets up that early to be here at sunrise?) going to or from this cache, please feel free to post them to your log. And if you happen to be here after all the ice and snow melts, see if you can find the benchmark. We think it is under the body. The two reference markers point that way.
