The town of Ophir (S 45° 6.605 E 169° 36.214) is definitely worth visiting if you're passing through the region. Awesome old buildings and of course the main feature at this cache site. The town also holds the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded in mainland New Zealand (minus 21.6 degrees C still air temperature (in 1995 if I recall correctly). Note that (even though it is still in active use) the feature is a registered Historic Place. Please treat it and its surrounds respectfully.
