When I was a kid, my father, brother and I hunted on both sides of this river.There's still plenty of game
here. I flushed up 3 ruffled grouse while setting up this cache. We never knew why this old mill was built
here. It was just known as "the old chimney". My father lived near-by all his life and he never knew what
they did here. I am still fascinated whenever I visit this place.
To get to the cache you can walk the ATV trails, under the powerlines, but try to keep to the right in order to keep out of as
much mud & water as possible. If you work it right you can also walk part of an ancient, abandoned
railroad bed.
The best place to park is at the same coords for parking for the Asbenbedick River cache. I've included
them below. I have included my new "Pax Et Bonum" T.B. in this cache.
PARKING DIRECTIONS
The biggest difficulty you will have is to find the parking area without feeling like you are trespassing on
private property. But if you follow my instructions I assure you that you will get there with no problem. The
cache is located in the South Berwick Town Forest. The right-of-way begins off the
Knight's Pond road at the coords, 43 15.164 N and 070 45.794 (you might want to print out the photo or
the rough map that I uploaded below). Take a right turn off Knight's Pond Road onto the driveway/right-of
way.there will be an old cemetery on the left and a house on the right. And there will be a farm house &
barn up ahead of you on top of the hill. About half way to the top take a right turn after passing under a
powerline. Follow this dirt road which runs parallel to the powerline, then bears left until it gets to the end
of the field. Park at the end of the field.( coords: 43 14.998N 070 45.692). After you park you will need to
go back to the bend in the road to pick up the ATV trails on the powerline. Go through the power lines and you will come onto an abandoned railroad bed. Follow the bed to about 43 14.822N - 70 46.219W. There you will find a sparcely used ATV trail that will bring you within 50 ft. of the cache.
The coords aren't the greatest here so I hope I've included enough hints.
