Geocache Description:

The Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson house, known as "The Castle on the Hill", is a beautiful example of a Queen Anne style Victorian house. You are looking for a well camouflaged container located nearby. The area is very well lighted, making this an easy night time cache.

For years, we have been meaning to visit this old Victorian. Maybe you are like us and just need a little nudge. Hunting for this nearby cache could be your "nudge". If you would like to tour the interior ($3 adults/$1 childern) visit Tuesday-Friday from 10 til 1 or Sat/Sun from 1-4.

The Shelton McMurphey Johnson House was built in 1888 on a hill overlooking the city of Eugene, Oregon. The three families who occupied the house witnessed and contributed to the transformation of Eugene from a frontier farming town to a thriving education and commercial center. Known in its day as the "Castle on the Hill," the Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House stands as a classic example of Queen Anne-style Victorian mansion of the late 19th century. The house is now owned by the city and administered by the non-profit Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson Associates.
