Geocache Description:

This micro cache is located in the North Coventry area of Pottstown, PA. This is a quick cache that is handicapped accessible. NOTE: Do not go on the property across the street from the cache site since it is private. The cache can be found in an easily accessible public spot.

The purpose of this cache is to help us recall fond memories we had with our grandparents (or other family members) when we were young children.

This micro cache is located in a spot that was once a field. It is across the street from the backyard of what was once my grandparent's house. The original house has been added onto over the years. When I was a kid, we always enjoyed our yearly summer visits with our grandparents. In the mornings, we would take walks up to the Norco Mall (now Coventry Mall) to window shop in the stores and look at the puppies in the pet shop. The Norco Mall was much, much smaller than the Coventry Mall that exists today. During hot summer afternoon days, we enjoyed swimming in the neighbor's pool next door. At night, we would catch lightning bugs in a jar and watch them before granting them their freedom.

The garage and the two sheds in the backyard were built by my grandfather and still exist today. The octagonal shed was once a brooder house used to raise chickens (that was before my time) and later turned into a storage shed. The shed next to the road was a woodshop where I spent many days making wood projects out of scrap wood. It always amazed me how my grandfather was able to get the large sedan he owned in and out of that small garage on the left.

There was once an apple tree next the garage (now a basketball court) which dropped its apples all over the yard. To occupy his grandkids idle time (i.e. putting us to work) my grandfather sharpened an 18" long stick and stuck an apple on it. He then showed us how to use the stick to throw the apple a over 100 feet into the field behind his yard (now the parking lot). Of course, we had a blast seeing who could throw the apples the furthest. He probably walked away, with a smile on his face, feeling like Tom Sawyer getting out of doing the work of picking up the apples himself.

To claim this cache, you must find the micro and then post a fond memory you had as a child with your grandparents (or other family member). There is only a small log book and pencil in the cache. There is no room for trade items. Please enter only your Geocaching ID and date of your find in the log book.

NOTE: A local relative is helping with the maintenance of the cache. Report any problems to "WompaCacher" using the Geocaching.com web site.
