Jack's Booty Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

lordelph: This cache has had a good innings, but I believe it's location is known to local kids due to it being completely emptied of goodies (but not the log book thankfully)

As Weston Woods is due a big clean up operation this weekend, now's the time to retire this cache.

As I have permission from NHDC for the cache and the permission took a long time to obtain, I will place a new cache in Weston Woods after the clean up.

Geocache Description:

Coordinates are for a good parking location. Cache involves walking up and down some steep inclines and is unsuitable for pushchairs and bikes. During winter, the trails can be slippery, hence the terrain rating. Small children will need some hand holding down the slopes, but dogs will love it!

Note you must visit Jack O'Legs (GCM6G0) - first, see below for details.

Jack O'Legs was the "Weston Giant" who roamed the downs around Weston and Gravely. He was a legendary bowman of enormous stature, and survived by stealing from strangers wandering through the area. However, in true Robin Hood fashion, he gave back some of his ill-gotten gains to the poor, and to the people of Weston he was something of a local hero.

To find Jack's booty, you must first visit Jack's grave and solve the Jack O'Legs (GCM6G0) cache. Inside that cache you'll find some laminated "Jack's Booty" cards with some lines of verse. Take one of these cards, and use it to unlock the secret of the giant's final stash. Read the verse and answer the following questions...

  • A = how many letter i's (I) are there?
  • B = how many words on the last line?
  • C = How many words are over the picture of the giant (even partially)?
  • D = how many time does the word "Weston" appear?
  • E = how many times does the word "Jack" appear?
  • F = The word "yet" is the F'th word
  • G = how many times does the word "Baldock" appear?
  • H = how many letter l's (L) are there?
  • You'll find the cache at N51°5A.BCD W000°1E.FGH. The posted coordinates for the cache is a good place to park.

On your way, you may pass the makeshift gibbet where Jack was hung by the Baldock lynch mob. Probably. Either way, the more daring will enjoy a swing or two....

NOTE: The cache contains some film canisters with Cache-In-Trash-Out bags, please take one and pick up a few items of rubbish on your way out. Refill the canister and pop it your next cache...
