This park was named after a chief of the local Cayuga Tribe (also known as the Mingo Tribe.) Another tidbit of history is that the area comprising the park was mined by Merrill Coal Company from 1921 through the late 1950's. The Chief Logan Recreation Area opened in 1961, and later became a state park in 1969.
This cache is a three part multi-cache consisting of some research, two micro-caches and a final cache, housed in a 50 cal. ammo box. Bring a pencil and paper to record needed info to find the final cache. Some of the terrain is MODERATELY steep, but follows mostly developed trails. In addition to your GPSr, you will need a compass. On your trek, you'll experience some unforgettable views of the park. Put on your boots, start walking and enjoy! You can pick up a trail map at the park office (N37° 53.830' W82° 00.080'), or print one for yourself from:

Now, on to a little research. Determine the correct numbers for A and B. Locate the steam locomotive in the park. Note the engine's weight and convert to tons (A) and the build year (B).
Proceed to the log cabin at N37° 53.252' W082° 00.897' (These are the listed coordinates.) From the bottom of the front steps, the first clue lies (A ÷ 2 − 20) feet away on a 60° magnetic bearing. At this point, you will receive instructions how to locate the second micro. At the second micro, you will be provided with the remaining clues for the final cache.
Please treat the instructions in these micro-caches with care, otherwise the final cache can never be found by others. Also be careful not to leave obvious paths to the caches. Good luck and enjoy the fun. Allow about 3 to 4 hours to complete. This cache is well suited for children who enjoy hiking. It's doggy friendly, too. Avoid the urge to bushwhack; trails will lead the way. Be sure to carry water. You no doubt will need it, especially on a hot day.
