Sahara, NM (v2.0) replaces the original cache which was stolen during the Great Permian Basin Cache Thief Caper of 2003.

This cache is on BLM managed public land in an off road vehicle recreation area. It can be easily approached by passenger car. The best parking is about 100 yards past the cache where the road turns east. This is a BLM Fee area - you'll need $3 for the first person in a vehicle or $5 for two people or more at the self serve pay station

For info on this very cool area, check out their website:

Mescalero Sands

Special thanks to BLMBilbo for the link and current information!

There is a new (1-20-13) geocache down the road from this cache called Troop 149 Sand and Camp. Click on the name to go to that page and some more great links to information about the area.

The cache container is about the size of a sandwich box.

Depending on the season, this cache may increase in difficulty to something like a 2 or 2.5 (vegetation factor). This is the desert, so please remember that just about everything out here either bites, stings, pokes, scratches or is just plain cranky.

This area receives heavy use on weekends but is often deserted during the week. Please be discrete when working the cache (the reason for the above parking suggestion).

Please note, this cache is in a different location than the original cache.
