This is the
first in a series of caches I will be placing around the area to
learn more about our surroundings. It is located in the
historic Woodlawn
Cemetery.
Edward Drummond Libbey, a glass-maker and
philanthropist, was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts. After
attending Boston University, he worked for the New England Glass
Company in 1874 and became president from 1883 to 1886. He
opened the Libbey Glass Company in Toledo, Ohio in 1888. His
success depended heavily on the inventions of his foreman, Michael
Owens. Libbey later founded the Owens Bottle Machine Company
in 1903 with exclusive rights to manufacture glass bottles, and the
Libbey-Owens Sheet Glass Company in 1916, serving as president of
both firms. He organized the Toledo Art Museum in 1901,
serving as the president from 1901 to 1925. He funded
building construction and bequethed to the museum his collection of
Dutch and English art.

Next
time you use a glass, if there is an "L" on the bottom, you will
know what it means.
The
above coordinates take you to Mr. Libbey's final resting
place. To find the cache, please take both years found on Mr.
Libbey's urn and find the difference. Add the new
number to the numbers in parentheses and these coordinates
will take you to a 35mm film container only large enough for a
log. Have fun and learn!
