This cache is located 1/2 mile off Route 66 about 25 miles west of Saligman on a public accessible private paved road which leads to the entrance to the Grand Canyon Caverns.
The geocache is a .30 caliber metal ammo box which contains a log book, teacher appreciation pins, stickers, a bunch of pogs, a working watch, misc. The scenery is great. No need to climb any fences to access this cache.
The Caverns were discovered by some indians and used as a grave for one of their group who had died on the trail. In 1927 it was rediscovered by a young woodcutter, Walter Peck, while on his way to play poker with his friends. Before reaching the game, he stumbled and nearly fell into a rather large, funnel-shaped hole.
The road is open during daylight hours to the general public. Check with motel/store desk at the turn-off for access after dark.
