Geocache Description:

An ammo can cache about .4 mile from the parking in the Citrus Section of the Withlacoochee State Forest.

I hope you enjoy the views along Stage Pond with the large oak trees and the sounds of wildlife in the wetlands. To park off road, turn south at 28°42.142 82 24.604, Forest Road 11, alongside the Stage Pond Cemetery. Drive around .3 miles to parking at 28°41.882 82°24.609 - if you have 4x you can drive just a bit further, a tenth or so, but there you'll start walking the red blazed trail. (4xers, please don't bear left and drive on the two track, it's designated hiking trail.) All but the lowest vehicles will be able to handle this road.

Stage Pond was a small community as late as 1920, with a tavern, general store, 2 churches and an inn. It was on the main coach road from Jacksonville to Homosassa and was a stage coach way-station. There was little other industry in the area and it was deserted by 1920 with the end of the stage coach.
