Geocache Description:

Three out of four members of the Redcow family have graduated from something in the past six months. This event cache is our present to ourselves. We've decided to throw a geoparty. Coincidently, Snyder Bark Park contacted us and Objets and asked about hosting an event cache. (February 26, 2005) Good timing.

For those who are interested in doing so, we will be meeting for breakfast on the day of the event at 7:00 a.m. at Lester's Diner. Ask to be seated in the back room. This is not a separate event but just an occasion to get together for breakfast prior to the real thing. If this diner turns out to be a good place to eat, we may host some future Broward County meet and greet events here. (N 26 05.543; W 80 08.651)

This event cache is jointly sponsored by Team Redcow, Objets, and Snyder Bark Park. It is being hosted by Snyder Park, one of Fort Lauderdale's municipal parks. The park manager has recently become an ardent supporter of Geocaching and wants to begin conducting periodic event caches and cache in/trash out events. She will be providing part of the prizes to be awarded at the event. In addition, the park is providing the pavilion where we will meet free of charge. All you will be required to pay is the $2.50 per person entry fee into the park. We will be meeting at the Caldwell Pavilion, which is the first large pavilion on the right just inside the park entrance.

The event will begin at 10:00. From my research it seems that there are two general schools of thought regarding event caches. Some prefer to come for the socializing and want time to just hang out and meet people. Others just come for the caches. So we're going to attempt to satisfy both groups. Beginning at 10:00 there will be a time for meeting people and playing a few geocontests. The barbeque will begin around 11:00. We will then hand out the cache reports around 12:00 for those who want to come just for the caches. We expect to finish up between 3:00 and 4:00.

In the future, there will also be a cache in/trash out event conducted by Objets here. We want to encourage you now to support that event, if at all possible. The park officials here have gone out of their way to help with this event and to ensure its success. Please help by coming back later to assist in the spring clean-up.

We plan to put out about a dozen new caches for this event. There will also be a bonus prize cache with FTF prizes and give-aways for second, third, fourth places, etc. The park will also be getting sponsors to give away gift certificates and other prizes.

We will also be providing potato salad, chips, beans, and other side dishes for a barbeque. Please bring your own meat to share, and we will have a lunchtime barbeque with each other. RSVP on the site so we know how much food to prepare.

Also, bring your travel bugs, and we will trade them. Any travel bugs left over after the event will be dropped off at The TB Depot, which is located in the park. If you plan to bring a travel bug, please log it into the event cache prior to the day of the event.

There may also be some novice geocachers present so if you are willing to give a half hour of your time to give a Geocaching class to a brand new group, please let us know. The park is advertising this event cache via their "nature event" mailing list so there could be as many as forty or fifty novices who will be there to learn about Geocaching. South Florida needs more caches, and more geocachers means more caches. So come join in.

NEW INFO! OBJets just informed me that he has received approval for a "pocket cache." This will be the first of its kind in Broward County and will be available at the event. This pocket cache will literally be in the park manager's pocket during the event. It will go online as a legitimate find this Saturday. In order to claim the cache you must locate Ronnie, the park manager, tell her how much you appreciate her support of Geocaching, and then quote this phase to her. "Thank you, Ronnie. The pig takes a bath at midnight." When she hears that phrase, she will hand you the log to sign. After the event, this pocket cache will be permanently placed somewhere in the park by OBJets.
