Little Church on the hill (Wilts) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Wombles: This cache has been set alight and badly damaged. I've decided against replacing it as the location has been compromised so trackables and other contents could go missing in the future. Reviewing the recent logs revealed a cacher left matches, the remains of matches are still inside the cache. Perhaps it is fortunate that the fire wasn't worse.

This cache lasted a good period of time and has drawn people to a lovely little church, thanks to all the visitors.

Geocache Description:

This cache is a short distance from the M4 J17. It is set in the woods next to Hardenhuish church which has good views over the surrounding countryside. The woods are suitable for children and dogs.

Hardenhuish church, Chippenham was built by an Architect of Bath, John Wood (the younger), famous for the Royal Crescent. There are views over Chippenham and the surrounding countryside. A visit to the churchyard is recommended and in particular the ornate tomb of David Ricardo, a world-famous economist. More details of the church are here.

Parking for this cache is either outside the church at N51°28.288', W02°07.869' (on the pavement – everyone does) or alternatively in the church car park opposite (the car park entrance is next to the Old Vicarage and looks like someone's garden). Access to the cache will be unaffected by Sunday church congregations although it may be necessary to park at the bottom of the hill in the school pick-up car park.

The cache is in a camo bag.
