La cache se situe prés du site de la Pierre Brunehaut à Hollain
non loin des pépiniéres de Lesdain (excellente fraises également
quand c'est la saison!)
La Pierre Brunehaut à Hollain, le plus beau menhir de Belgique,
est un énorme bloc de grès landénien dressé à proximité de la
chaussée romaine Bavai - Tournai.
Cette immense pierre en forme de trapèze se dresse la pointe au
nord. La hauteur est de 4,25 m sur environ 3 m de large. Son poids
total est évalué à environ 23 tonnes.
On a souvent avancé comme hypothèse expliquant la fonction de
cette pierre, le besoin de connaître le mouvement des astres. On ne
sait cependant rien de positivement objectif sur l'histoire de la
Pierre Brunehaut. Ses alentours ont livré une riche industrie
lithique, ainsi qu'un ensemble d'habitats allant du Néolithique
final à la période romaine.
Sa localisation au sommet d'un plateau paisible d'où l'on
découvre les clochers de nombreux villages en fait un agréable but
de promenades.
Durant le troisième millénaire, Brunehaut fut le siège
d'échanges commerciaux intenses, illustrés par la plus grosse
concentration de poignards en silex du Grand-Pressigny
(Indre-et-Loire, France) jamais signalée au Benelux et dans le nord
de la France.

Parking à environ 150 m de la Pierre, à la table d'orientation
cherchez dans la direction du menhir...
Il s'agit d'une boite tupperware de 21*15*10 cm; blanche avec un
couvercle bleu.
A l'intérieur vous y trouverez un logbook,un crayon et des
feuillets explicatif sur le geocaching.
J'y est également déposé le Géolutin "Homme Préhistorique n°3"
et Le travel bug "Il gallo negro"

De cache bevindt zich nabij de site van de steen van Brunehaut
te Hollain, niet zover van de kwekerijen van Lesdain (tijdens het
seizoen zijn er tevens lekkere aardbeien!)
De steen van Brunehaut te Hollain, de mooiste menhir van België,
is een enorme blok zandsteen rechtop gezet langs de Romeinse weg
Bavai - Tournai.
Deze enorme trapeziumvormige blok staat rechtop met de punt naar
het Noorden gericht. De hoogte is 4,25 m en de breedte ongeveer 3
m. Zijn totale gewicht is geschat op 23 ton.
De functie van deze steen zou, volgens de meest aanvaarde
hypothese, als noodzaak hebben, de beweging van de sterren te
kennen. Tot op heden kennen we echter niets concreet over de
geschiedenis van de steen van Brunehaut. De omgeving heeft een
massa industriegesteentes geleverd, alsook een verzameling van
nederzettingen van het einde van het Neolithicum tot de Romaanse
periode.
Zijn ligging op de top van een rustig plateau, vanwaar we de
vele klokkentorens van de talrijke dorpen waarnemen, maakt er een
aangename wandellocatie van.
Tijdens het derde millennium was Brunehaut de zetel van
intensieve ruilhandel, geïllustreerd door de grootste concentratie
silexdolken van Grand-Pressigny (Indre-et-Loire, Frankrijk) ooit
gesignaleerd in de Benelux en in het Noorden van Frankrijk.
De cache
Parking op ongeveer 150 m van de steen, vanaf de oriëntatietafel
zoeken in de richting van de menhir . Het betreft een
tupperwaredoos van 21*15*10 cm; wit met een blauw deksel.
Binnenin vind je er een logbook, een potlood en enkele blaadjes
uitleg over geocaching. Bovendien plaatste ik er de Géolutin "Homme
Préhistorique n°3" en de travel bug "Il gallo negro"

The cache is placed nearby the site of the stone of Brunehaut in
Hollain, not so far from the plantations of Lesdain (during the
season there are also delicious strawberries!)
The stone of Brunehaut in Hollain, de most beautiful menhir of
Belgium, is a huge bloc of sandstone erected along the Roman road
Bavai - Tournai.
This enormous bloc in the shape of a trapezium stands up pointed

Parking at approximately 150 m from the stone, search from the
orientation table in the direction of the menhir . You are looking
for a Tupperware box from 21*15*10 cm; white with a bleu cover.
Inside you will find a logbook, a pencil and some papers
explaining geocaching. Besides I placed also the Géolutin "Homme
Préhistorique n°3" and the travel bug "Il gallo negro" in the
cache.
