Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the co-ords posted above.
They are for the first location.

This multi-cache takes you round eight of the many interesting historical locations in Lichfield and could take up to 2 hours.

You are looking for a MKH.

Lichfield is an historic market city located some 13 miles north of Birmingham, in the county of Staffordshire. Its origins are lost in the mists of time, but it is certain that there has been occupation of this area for more than 1500 years. For a brief history of the city click here

The Cathedral is particulary noteworthy, being the only mediaeval three-spire Cathedral in the country. For more information about the Cathedral click here

For a map of the city click here.

For a car-park map click here . In addition, it is possible to park at the Tesco car park - which is not that far from the beginning of the trail.

At each location you will find some numbers (usually in a date form). You will need to find the number that has been substituted with a letter marked in bold on the cache page and make a note of it. When you have visited all of the locations and have all the missing numbers, you will need to put them into the "formula" shown on the cache page. A little bit of very simple maths will be needed to complete the formula. Once you've done the formula you will have the co-ords for the final cache.

Thanks to nediam for allowing me to adopt this cache. And also to walkergeoff for creating it originally.

First location: N52º 41.118' W001º 49.437'

There are two dates on this plaque. They are 1129-1A48.

Second location: N52º 40.985' W001º 49.636'.

Look at the year that this clock was presented to the Aldermen and Citizens of Lichfield. 192B.

Third location:
N52º 40.845' W001º 49.665'

In what year was this house erected? Call this 168C.

Fourth location: N52º 40.899' W001º 49.723'.

There is a plaque on this wall giving information about the building of which it was was once a part of. The dates of the building are 1229-15D8.

Fifth location: N52º 41.032' W001º 49.648'.

You should by now be in the Market Place. Look at the statue of Boswell. The dates of the subject are 174E-1795.

This area has one other statue, and several plaques on the wall that you see facing you as you look at this statue. The only reason they are not used as clues is that they are often obscured when the market is on. If you can see them, you will see one with details of the charter, as well as two others reflecting the turbulent, religous history of this country. One of them is shown here

Sixth location: N52º 41.062' W001º 49.677'

Look at the plaque on the wall giving the dates when Dr Johnson attended a school that was once here. The date he attended was 171F.

Seventh location:
N52º 41.118' W001º 49.752'

Look at the list of prohibited items. There are three mentioned. Add up the number of letters in their names, to get an answer in the form XY. Clue G = (XY - 18). (Do not include the 'or' in your calculation).

Eighth location: N52º 41.113' W001º 49.821'

There is an effigy of King Charles II. On the plaque at the base is an inscription mentioning a restoration in what century? Answer = H

Formula: The cache is located in Beacon Park at the following co-ordinates N52°4(A-1).(B+1) (C+4) (D-2) W001°5E.(F-4) (G+2) (H-14).

Please replace the cache as you found it. Thanks.
