Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in an all weather terrain area and is wheelchair accessible to get to, although help would be needed to actually retrieve the cache. You can park within 100 feet of this cache.

The Hays summer collegiate league baseball team was organized in 1924. In 1946, Mrs. Bill Downs won the "name the team" contest and it became known as the Hays Larks. The Larks joined the National Baseball Congress in 1946. In 1977, the Larks joined the NCAA sanctioned Jayhawk League. To this day the Larks have been a stepping stone for many major league baseball players including current superstars like Albert Pujols, 2001 NL Rookie of the year and 2003 NL batting title winner, of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Lance Berkman of the Houston Astros. Other current major leaguers include Jack Wilson of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and B. J. Ryan of the Baltimore Orioles. Some past notable major leaguers that played for the Larks include Steve Searcy, Detroit Tigers, Mitch Webster, Montreal Expos, Jim Leyritz, New York Yankees, Willard Schmidt, St. Louis Cardinals, Shane Bowers, Minnesota Twins, Brad Cornett, Toronto Blue Jays, Chris Eddy and George Williams Oakland A's and Ron Schueler, former GM of the Chicago White Sox.
The town of Hays has always been known for its rich baseball history. Enjoy the view of the park and happy caching.
