Geocache Description:

Along the trail to Murray Hill and above the Eagle Canyon palm oasis. It’s just under 1 mile one way to this cache.

This area is jam packed with hiking and biking trails, all which offer fabulous views of the desert cities, the San Jacinto mountains, and Mt. San Gorgonio. Be sure to visit Jane’s Hoff Brau down in the oasis after finding the cache!

TRAILHEAD: There are two.

Elks trailhead: This one is for the adventurous soul who likes it rough and steep. Give yourself an extra ½ star terrain rating if you take this route. Located behind the Elks Lodge in Cathedral City. Take Elk Dr. south from Hwy 111 and park behind the Elks Lodge in the southwest corner. Trailhead coordinates: 33d 47.273 W116d 29.098. Hike up the steep, rocky canyon 200 feet, staying to the left of the canyon. This route does require some rock scrambling and this small canyon has collected its share of junk. Once at the top of this short canyon, you will see the jeep trail coming up from the Broadmoor trailhead on your right. Make your way to the trail and head southwest.

Broadmoor trailhead: Being a jeep trail, this trailhead is probably the preferred trailhead for most. Trailhead is at the end of Broadmoor at the east end of the Vons Rimrock Shopping Center on South Palm Canyon Dr. Trailhead coordinates: N33d 47.429 W116 29.535. Suggested parking is the shopping center area. This is a popular mountain biking trail, and is also referred to as Goat Trail.

There are numerous roads and trails and we accidentally made a nice loop trip. For those who want to go directly to the cache, and other caches along the way, here’s some important coordinates:

N33d 47.064 W116d 29.449: Jeep trail off to the left. We DID NOT take this route.
N33d 46.934 W116d 29.592: Foot trail off to the left. Take this trail. This trail will take you along the canyon wall of the Eagle Canyon palm oasis. NOTE: IF you continue heading west on the jeep trail, you can make a nice loop trip. The jeep trail heads west then southwest for quite a bit, then comes to a T-intersection. You would turn left at this intersection and head east and then down into the wash and out the other side to go to Murray Meets Clara cache.
N33d 46.825 W116d 29.568: This trail will take you down into Eagle Canyon palm oasis, a worthy short side trip.

Cache is a small rectangular tin and is just above my hiking stick in spoiler photo. Intitial contents: some gadgets, logbook and pen.
