Geocache Description:

The cache is located in sight of the old Victorian train station in Point of Rocks, Maryland. This station, built in 1871, was designed by noted Baltimore architect Ephraim Francis Baldwin. The building is not in operation today. It is used mainly for storage, but MARC trains do stop here to pickup passengers headed to the DC area. The station was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1973.

In the late 1800's this station was sometimes referred to as 'Washington Junction' by rail travelers because the tracks split into a northbound route to Baltimore and a southbound route to Washington DC.

Parking is available, but at a premium during weekday work hours. Off road parking can be found close by. Be sure to read the historic plaques in the parking lot. Stonewall Jackson pulled a good one here.

The cache contains a logbook, pencils and a small pencil sharpener. There's no room for trade items.

You might want to check out the nearby railroad tunnel built in 1902. It's located 1/2 mile west at 39° 16.459 77° 32.591. Parking is available during daylight hours under the Rt 15 bridge. The tunnel is still in use so be sure to look from a safe distance.
