This cache was placed in the Ashtead Commons near what we think to
be an earthworks from Roman times. It is about a 1 mile walk from
the Ashtead train station. The walk is mostly along bridle paths
and footpaths, and it can get quite muddy when it has been raining
(it was certainly muddy when we placed this cache!).
The cache is a large tupperwear container, painted brown and
green and hidden under some natural camouflage we found in the
area. The lid is a bit tight, and you need to make sure have all
four corners in place before you put it back. Also please be sure
to hide this well when replacing. There used to be a very
interesting sculpture nearby, but it seems vandals have removed it.
We recommend following Footpath 32 to get to the cache with the
least amount of effort.
We tried to place it in the remains of the Roman villa that is
mentioned on maps for the area, but we could not find them. If
anyone else is able to find them, perhaps they could post a note
with coordinates so other cachers can visit them when they hunt for
I placed this cache while visiting my sister and brother in law,
who live nearby and who have agreed to look after the cache for me.
It is about 5000 miles from my home coordinates.
