Geocache Description:

***THE CACHE IS NOT LOCATED AT THE POSTED COORDINATES. THIS IS SIMPLY A GOOD PLACE TO PARK. FOLLOW THE CLUES IN THE NARRATIVE BELOW TO FIND THE PIRATE'S TREASURE!***

Legend has it that long before Germantown was the home to so many of Memphis' well-to-do citizens and their horses, the terrible Captain Purplebeard (he had a bad habit of dribbling his port down his chin while drinking) and this rapacious crew of sea-dogs sailed up the Mighty Mississippi, down Nonconnah Creek, and along some uncharted and unnamed stream to hide their ill-gotten gains along its bank (HINT). Legend has it that a chest full of bobbles and trinkets can be found hidden just off the Richard C. Simon Memorial Trail at the Germantown Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Strangely this trail now highlights the core values of the Boy Scouts (kindness, trustworthiness, courtesy, etc.). Ironic, isn't it? The treasure of these especially disobedient (HINT) rapscallions is tucked away (HINT) twenty-five feet from one of the trail markers (HINT). That is as much as legend tells us, but, fortunately, the area of the trail is not that big, and you have been paying attention, haven't you, matey? Park at the posted coordinates or the trailhead to start your search. You are looking for an honest-to-goodness treasure chest (of sorts), of the smaller variety. Inside are the typical tradeables, a log, and a few coins (of the kind you might expect in a Canadian Bear cache). As this seemed like a logical starting point, starting its journey is a GOWT Geocoin given to me yesterday by Bitbrain, less than a half-mile from this location. That Bitbrain is a fine fellow! Please be sure to seal the chest back up in its protective covering. Thorns aplenty! Mosquitoes and poison ivy in season. Frustrated? The SPOILER hint gives the last five digits for the north and west coordinates of the actual cache. THIS IS A SPOILER! Try it without!

Cache is now maintained by Spencersb.
