Good Point! Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Discombob: Archiving, due to missing waypoints, and prefer this one to be a single cache.
Will reinstate as a new cache in May - hopefully :o)

Geocache Description:

A great day out in Cape Point, with a bit of history, and some spectacular scenery. I recommend leaving early, so you can get to final cache location for a picnic lunch.
Entrance fee is R35 per person. South africans or long terms visitors might like to consider buying a wild card for about R200, which gives access to all SA National parks free for a year.
Not recommended in wet weather.

To get the co-ordinates of the final cache, you need to locate 4 sub caches, and get the missing digits from these caches. The 4 sub caches are really easy to find and get to, but the final cache is more of a challenge.

The Co-ords of the Final cache are:

S 34° AB' CD
E 018° EF' GH

Cache 1: 34° 18' 38
18° 27' 70

At this site you will find an interesting object. Add up all the individual digits of the date this was built and then add 3. This figure = AB

Cache 2 : 34° 19' 31
18° 26' 89

Add up all the individual digits of the date this item was erected. This figure = GH

Cache 3 : 34° 21' 24
18° 29' 42

How far is it to the South pole? - 6CD8 km's

(at this sub cache, I recommend climbing over the far wall, climbing down one level of rocks, and lying down on the edge of the cliff face and staring down to the rocks and sea below. (Dont trip here!!!) An incredible feeling and view, and one of my favourite places to contemplate the wonders of the world. On a still day, you can see the fish in the sea below. Reminds me a bit of the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland)

Cache 4 : 34° 21' 35
18° 29' 70

Add all the digits in the year this object was 1st lit, and add 9 to the total. This figure = EF

Now that you have the final cache co-ords, I had better tell you how to get there, as I don't want anyone falling off the edge of a cliff.
Head down to Diaz Beach. (Be careful when swinmming here, as the waves and currents are normally very dangerous.) At the far left of the beach, you will need to decide which is the lesser of 2 evils:

1 - Risk getting yourself crushed to death on the rocks, or getting swept out to see by the huge waves crashing on the rocks, should you choose to take the sea level route along the rocks. (This way might be inaccessible at high tide, but I am not sure)
2 - Risk falling off the cliff to your death and smashing on the rocks below, should you decide to shimmy along the ledge on the cliff face (my preferred route). To take this route, head up the fairly steep dune section and then along the rocks. When the rock shelf stops, you will be able to climb up a little ledge, and then crawl on this ledge to climb down the other side. The ledge is wide enough, but there is another ledge further on just above this, so you need to crawl under this top shelf.

Note: I do exaggerate here, and the chance of death is not really that high :-)

After rounding this section to the second beach, I decided on a whim to be slightly evil when placing the cache, which means you will have to climb up the rather steep slope to get to cache. I suggest starting by the shipwreck, and watch out if you are wearing slip slops, as I almost came acropper in mine while heading down. Good Luck!

(Note: Clues changed on 16 Jan, based on advice from Vespa and Larks: Call me on 083 445 2737 if this does not seem to work - I will double check soon.)
