Arkansas' cattle industry was endangered at the turn of the century
by a tick-borne disease that led to a federal quarantine and to
state efforts to eradicate the "Texas fever ticks". The Arkansas
Heritage Preservation Department is currently trying to find out
how many of these dipping vats still survive. AHP hopes to nominate
eligible vats to the National Register of Historic Places, the
United States' official list of historically significant
properties.
During the winter months, you can readily see the old Harmony
Dipping Vat from the cache site. There is trash and water in the
old vat, so, again, do not cross the fence or let children near
it.
Please replace the cache as you found it so other cachers may
have the same challenge. If it needs attention, please email. You
may want to visit the Harmony Church cache, the Horsehead Creek
cache, the Harmony Cemetery cache, and the Toby Loop cache while in
this area.
