Eastern Tennessee has many hidden cemeteries in and amongst it's Smoky Mountain communities.

Webbs Creek Flash Flood

A very quiet resting place, in this out of the way Smoky Mountain community.


On August 5, 1938 a flash flood struck the Webbs Creek Area, destroying property for miles around, and tragically taking the lives of eight persons when it destroyed the home of the Alfred Ball family.
On August 7, 1988, the Smoky Mountain Historical Society, through donations, erected a monument for this family, and on that day a dedication service was held-fifty years later to the day. Two other victims, the Evans' were buried at the Shults-Whaley Cemetery, (near The Lost Shults Mine cache) and a small marker was placed there.

Webbs Creek Flash Flood cache may be reached by turning North onto a dirt/rock road off of US 321 that ends up being overgrown with grass in Sevier County Sevierville. You will need to park and walk a short distance up a hill to Spurgeon Cemetery. There is no need to drive through a golf course to reach this cache!

The cache is a small camo Lock & Lock with log book and pen with space available for small trade items.

Please remember the exact place and position you retrieve the cache so as to replace it in the same manner!
