Geocache Description:

SITE OF AN OLD MINE,
THIS LOCATION LENDS ITSELF TO HISTORY AND GEOLOGY

Years ago, Floridin Mines had several open mines in the area. They looked for fuller's earth. Commonly used for cat litter, grease absorbant and more romantically as a filter for making fine wine. This mine stayed a dangerous open pit barely kept off limits by falling fences. The local kids loved to play there but several sustained serious injuries and finally the city purchased the land and through a series of grants, paved the street adjacent to it and capped the few spring heads forming a small pond and steep hill where the local children love to slide down the dry grass slopes on cardboard boxes. The springs join Tanyard Branch which is where you will find the cache, an ammo box filled with goodies. It's fine to park on the street and use the gap in the fence to access the hill.
