UPDATE: 5/19/07 I believe this is outside the burn area, but in the aftermath of the Griffith Park fire, ALL hiking trails south of Zoo Drive (that's all of them) are closed until further notice. $1000 fine and six months jail for violation. The one exception is the East & West Observatory Trail which is open from Ferndell directly to the Observatory. For closure updates, see lagriffithpark.blogspot.com//.

The first of more to come in the less visited northern section of Griffith Park. As with all the Griffith Park caches, there are myriad parking locations, access points and trail loop possibilities. I'll leave it up to you. Be sure to pick up the nearby Sky Summit and Silver Buck caches. Take a lesiurely stroll on wide fire roads/horse trails for a 2 hour tour or, use your geosenses, follow the paths of least resistance and go for a cache and dash in under 30 minutes! Cache is a lightly hidden green-painted jar, initially containing a water wiggle, a Country Classics cassette tape, rubber snakes, seeds, etc. Caution: ticks, rattlesnakes and mountain lions are known to inhabit the area. Enjoy the walk!
