Before visiting, please check status of the track with Information centres in Opotiki or Gisborne. As of 15 November 2023, the track is still closed. Please update us if this has changed in the mean time.
There's been a lot of significant damage to Tairawhiti Region, including this track during cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023. As a result, the local owners and caretakers have closed the access track to the lighthouse. Please respect that.

This cache was planted, because the East Cape cache was not
available at the time, we thought we could replace the cache with
this one, however the owner replaced it soon after us.
After some time looking for another suitable place @ East Cape,
we really couldn't find any place that could last for extended
periods. Therefore we planted this one, at a less-obvious place.
When at the top, make sure you give a try "Cache of the lighthouse"
by Artemiskid and the Gang (GCH3PQ).
