Flash Lane Aqueduct Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

kbootb: I've moved 150 miles away. I kept it going for 3 years after the move but get back so rarely that it's not feasible to look after it. It's a shame, it's been going a long while. Anybody willing to adopt it?

Geocache Description:

This cache is a thin ammo box hidden 65 Metres from the Aqueduct

Set in Whitewebbs Park. The New River is an artificial river started in 1609 to bring fresh drinking water from Chadwell to London. It has followed a number of routes over history, originally following the 100ft contour. Over time routes were shortened by creating aqueducts to cross local streams and brooks. This aqueduct crosses Cuffley Brook.

Over time various loops of the New River were shortened and abandoned when pumping stations were introduced allowing the river to use a straighter route. The pumping house for this section has now become the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport. Check this website for details. (visit link)

This cache is roughly 0.5 miles from any parking in a wooded area.

There are 3 common parking areas.
1. Park at the head of Flash Lane at N51º 40.375 W 0º05.662 in Strayfield Road. Don't try driving along Flash Lane, there is no parking. The walk along Flash Lane has good GPS reception all the way but pretty muddy in winter.
2. Park at the entrance to Whitewebbs Park N51º 40.925 W0º 04.920. A nice walk down through the parkland and into the forest. GPS reception will be patchy in some areas.
3. Park at the old Golf Clubhouse. N51º 40.359 W 0º 04.986 A longer walk over a mixture of open land and then into the woods.

The Aqueduct and information board is at N 51º 40.665 W 0º 05.255. There is good GPS reception here, the cache is 65 Metres on a bearing of 085º.
