Geocache Description:

The Cache is located in a Brookhaven Town Nature Preserve. Parking is located on Whiskey Road. If you follow the trails the cache should require very little bushwacking.

The western portion of Whiskey Road was laid out in 1753 and started at the property of Jonathan Edwards. About that time the Randall family settled in Ridge. A number of years later one of the Randall boys fell in love with one of the Swezey girls whose home was near the Edward's farm. In order to Shorten the route between the lovers the Randall family convinced the town to build a road connecting the two farms. Tradition has it that to speed the building of the road a jug of whiskey was placed along the route everyday. As soon as the clearing crew reached the jug they could stop for the night. It is said so much whiskey was drunk in building the road the town had to come back three years later and straighten out the crooked path.

After you find the cache look around the general area a large number of interesting unbroken soda, wine and beer bottles from the 50's and 60's have been left scattered within 300 feet of the cache site. I'm still looking for one of the missing jugs of whiskey.
