Geocache Description:

The view from this section of Man O' War Ridge is superb, but the terrain is not for the faint of heart. Looking at it from ocean level it appears totally impossible to reach, but it can be done...if you take the backdoor approach :) There are at least 18 geocaches within a six mile radius of Colliers so that fact (plus the beautiful scenery) makes it definitely worth a trip out from the city.

This should be a relatively easy find, but only if you can actually reach the location in question :)

The challenge lies entirely in getting to the top of the mountain range as safely and efficiently as possible.

Bring a camera, because on a clear day, the trip up is definitely worth the effort :)

Unless you have access to a helicopter you can't attack this from below. There is no safe trail upwards and the loose scree in open areas makes for dangerous footing. We'd suggest not approaching from the beach for these reasons.

There is no direct path anywhere, but if you go to start coordinates N 47.28.696 and W 053.13.252 on the English Cove Road in nearby Marysvale you will be on relatively flat land. Find the "valley" between the inner and outer ridgelines and some faint animal trails lead to a mountain with what can only be described as "the world's worst case of a splitting headache". This will become apparent when you realize where you are :)

Please don't even think about climbing up or down the cliffs AT ANY TIME regardless of personal expertise. Don't say we didn't warn you :) Take your time and enjoy the great coastal views of Colliers Harbour instead :)

The cache itself is a small white beef bucket. It is hidden in almost plain sight to make it accessible year round. Please take care in rehiding it carefully as this can be an area that gets a number of spectators at times.

This is the sixth in a series of caches being hidden by Flynnsbeach and Bittensticks. Make note of the codewords in the logbooks as there will be a special prize for those geocachers who find ANY TEN of them :)

Care and caution is (as always) advised as the surrounding rocks can be very slippery when wet or icy. Don't head over the cliffs...regardless of what individual GPS readings may say. The cache is NOT near the edge or in the crevasse.

Cache contents at the time of hiding were:

Log Book
Pencils
Sharpener
First Finders Certificate
Hockey Puck
Money in many denominations (Play of course)
Crayons
Skate Board
Toy Plane
Soldiers
Hawaiian Lai (just because Newfoundland is so tropical :)

(Also a Travel Bug was dropped in their for good measure).

Good Luck !!!!

Flynnsbeach and Bittensticks
