Eastern Tennessee is considered part of the "Bible belt" and the surrounding Smoky Mountain communities hold
their religious believes in high esteem!
He's Alive! XXXI Webbs Creek
Webbs Creek United Methodist Church
This is the thirty second in a continuing series of He's Alive! caches.
Many of the local Smoky Mountain churches have small congregations, are quaint and friendly, and their structures have a very typical country facade.
Frequently small in size, though large in stature, the church is distinguished by being white in color with a double door step-up entrance and a steeple as modest as the congregation within. The more "luxurious" steeple will house a meeting bell.
On February 17, 1916, the Rev. Joseph A. Shultz and his wife, Malinda, of Sevier County deeded 3/8 acre to the trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church and their successors in office. The location was described as "lying off the waters of Webb's Creek". The building was completed in 1917. The church was also used as school during 1917-1918. The original structure was destroyed by fire in 1922.
On September 6, 1923 the Rev. Shultz deeded one acre of land adjoining the original lot. The present church, located just off Highway 321 , on the corner of Branam Hollow Road and Church Road, was completed by the Board of Missions in 1926.
Church services are held each Sunday at 11:00AM and you will find a warm welcome and God is always present. Come, casually dressed, and let this lovely country mountain community church be your "home away from home church" anytime you are visiting the Smokies, Gatlinburg, or Cosby area!
This cache is located near the Webbs Creek United Methodist Church off of Church road in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Take US 321 between Gatlinburg and Cosby to Branam Hollow. After turning on Branam Hollow continue across the one lane bridge over Webbs Creek to the church. The regular cache is a camouflaged covered platstic 7" deep by 4.5"X4.5" Planters peanut box with goodies inside for trade and a log book to date and sign.
Please remember the exact place and position you retrieve the cache so as to return it in the same manner!
A hint is provided if you so choose to use.
