After reading that the original Dolphin cache (GC8AF2) had been muggled, members of the Krispy Kreme Dozen went out to recon the location and confirmed that the original Dolphin cache was gone. To ease our spirits, we hid a new cache called Tursiops Truncatus (GCHPB8). This cache enjoyed a modest amount of success until three hurricanes tossed the area around and the contract city employees drove their heavy equipment through to finish the job that Mother Nature started. At this point, the cache location is a jumbled mess of downed trees, debris, and junk -- not very pretty.
So, I drove over today and decided to give this park one more try. I found an interesting spot (untouched by human hands) that took some effort to reach. I sought out the only landmark in the area, a decent sized tree that is almost completely choked by vines, and I placed the cache against the trunk of that tree. The coords were taken with about 16' EPE due to overhead cover but they should be fine for the task. One last thing... The terrain here is pretty nasty - lots of vines (poison ivy?), thorns, brambles, and lots of mud. Fun, huh?
The new cache container is a screw top jug (roughly 10' x 8') painted in a green/black camo pattern. It contains a log, two pens, and a bunch of McToys. Please be sure to put the container back in its hiding spot and cover it with some leaves to make it harder for muggles to nab.
