Honeybee had her own cache and it was just a matter of time before Bumblebee asked for her own cache. Actually took quite a bit longer than I expected for the question to arise.
This cache is along a trail that we have driven by almost at least daily for the past three plus years and never noticed. It is BLM land and part of the Pine Hill Preserve. The Pine Hill Preserve was established to protect rare native plants in El Dorado County that grow in gabbro soils.
The trailhead is directly across from Auburn Hills Drive on the south side of Meder Road at approx N38 40.883 W120 58.538. There is no parking in the immediate vicinity, you are probably best off walking from Honeybee's cache (a couple of hundred yards). From the trailhead, it is about 0.3 miles of a fairly gradual but steady uphill climb. On the way up you get a good bird's eye view of Cameron Park.
At this time I am not sure where the trail takes you. My guess is somewhere off of Sudbury Road but I will find out for sure when I have some more time and daylight. We did make it to the summit which is a few hundered vertical feet above the trailhead.
Please stay on the trail because this is considered an ecologically sensitive area. I don't know why you wouldn't, it looks like mostly manzanita and sage to me. Watch for snakes in the spring and summer months.
