Geocache Description:

On this 4 part multi you will visit two of Oconomowoc’s entries into the National Register of Historic Places and a few other things of interest. Round-trip you will walk about 3/4 of a mile on sidewalks. Parking can be found at N43 06.609 W088 29.895

Before it was Oconomowoc, this area was known by the Potowatomi Indians as Coo-No-Mo-Wauk (where the waters meet). Come walk with me and explore a small taste of what this city has to offer....

WP#1 While Oconomowoc saw it's first white settlers in 1837, it wasn't until the late1800's that it became a travel destination for wealthy folks from Milwaukee, St. Louis and Chicago. Included among these tourists were 6 U.S. presidents. To accommodate these high-to-do folks a new $12,000 train depot was built (1896, listed with the NRHP 1/29/80). Now a restaurant, this may be the last fieldstone depot in the country. The Smith & Barney railcar stationed here was built in 1910. At this location you are looking for a city ordinance sign; use the numbers on the sign and fill in the blanks to get to the second waypoint.

A=The 4th number in the ordinance plus 1
B=The 2nd number in the ordinance plus 2
C=The 6th number in the ordinance
N43 06.ABC W088 29.826
N43 06.__ __ __W088 29.826

WP#2 Step right up to the second waypoint (Built in 1886, listed with the NRHP 4/10/80) where you will find a very special marker; it has both an identification number on it and a year. To find the third WP you need to use those numbers to complete the following set of coordinates. You'll want to write these numbers down as there are muggles everywhere and they will wonder what you are up to.

A= The last numeral in the Identification number
B= The second number in the year
N43 06.ABA W088 29.B58
N43 06.__ __ __ W088 29.__58

*As a side note right across the street on August 12, 1939: The world premiere of MGM's The Wizard of Oz was held at the Strand Theatre. It was shown through September 16, 1939.

WP#3 Welcome to the "4 Corners." This is purported to be the site where two Native American trails crossed. At this site you need to answer the following questions to fill in the Final coordinates.

A= What is the third number in the year
B= What is the last number in the year minus one
C= What is the first number in the year plus the last number
Final Coords: N43 06.75A W088 30.BCB
Final Coords: N43 06.75__ W088 30.__ __ __

*The final is located in a public area so use discretion in your search. Also note only the smallest of items may be traded. While you are here take some time to thank those who have made our country great.
