Geocache Description:

People from Oklahoma have heard the story all their lives. At noon on September 16, 1893, pistol shots began one of the world's greatest races. The prize was 8,000,000 acres of land. The run was made by over 100,000 people using covered wagons, buggies, ox teams, Indian ponies, special railroad trains and race horses. By nightfall the land, which had long been the home of the Indian, was a settled land of townsites and homesteads.

That's how the Cherokee Strip was settled...... Or was it?

Many people, myself included, think they know the story of the Cherokee Strip. But I found out I didn't know as much as I thought I did.

This Micro is hidden near a marker that tells a very different story of the "Cherokee Strip" than the one you have probably heard.

Below are 3 dates, and a set of coordinates by each one. To find this cache, you will need to visit the marker for The "Real" Cherokee Strip at the coordinates listed above and find out which date is the date this marker was errected.

Then just go to the coordinates listed by that date and you will find the cache.

Have fun, enjoy the history lesson, and remember that just because you heard it all your life doesn't mean it's true!
