For two years, US Troops searched Iraq for Weapons of Mass
Destruction (WMD). The Iraq Survey Group, consisting of as many as
1500 military and intelligence specialists, was unable to find
stockpiles of WMD and the search was officially called off in mid-
January 2005. Note 1.
In this game, cache hunters are NOT searching for WMD, but just
a simple cache in Tarrant County. An advance recon squad of ten
soldiers (Note 2) has been sent into
Tarrant County to scope things out for the Geocachers and provide
intelligence. These 10 unique soldiers are Travel Bugs, each having
its own TB Dog Tag Tracking Number. Each soldier also has a code
letter=number in its possession. Your job is to find the soldier.
Take note of the code letter=number, log the TB find and place it
in another cache. Players who obtain sufficient soldiers to
decipher the coded coordinates, may search for the cache and claim
their just rewards.
The Cache coordinates are: N32 AB.CDE W097 FG.HIJ
Recommend park at or near: N32 AB.HJD W097 FA.GBD
The following is not needed on the cache sheet that you take
along on the hunt and may or may not be superfluous and or
interesting.
When posting your find of a soldier TB, for obvious reasons, do
not mention the code letter=number found on the soldier in either
the TB’s log or this cache log. You may, however, note on
this cache log that you placed a soldier in a cache and identify
that cache and the soldier by name and the six character (letters
& numbers) TB Number. However, nowhere, in the text of any log,
should you mention the Travel Bug’s six number only Tracking
Number.
In anticipation of one or more soldiers being taken prisoner,
declared missing in action or going AWOL, clones have been sent out
to keep the game going. A clone may look like the real soldier or
may be a small copy of the soldier's dog tag annotated with the
soldier's name and code number. Such clones are small enough to fit
in most micro-caches and may be placed in any cache in which they
will fit. When you find a soldier with a metal Travel Bug tag, log
the Travel Bug as a find and also log it when you place it in
another cache. When you find a clone, it is not necessary to log
the find, but please keep the clone moving for the sake of the
game.
Please keep all soldiers in or near Tarrant County. They serve
no purpose in Abilene or New York and will be considered AWOL.
Note 1. The total area of Iraq is
171,599 sq. mi. Not as large as Texas but larger than California.
The total area of Tarrant County is approximately 992 sq. mi. and
it would take about 173 areas the size of Tarrant County to make up
an area as large as Iraq.
Note 2. Small groups of tactical units
are normally referred to as squads. A typical special ops team has
14 members: two officers and 12 enlisted. The enlisted troops are
specialists in air ops, weapons, demolition, intelligence/planning,
sub ops, and medical. There is normally two of each specialty. This
allows a team to divide into two squads. The squads may be made of
members from one or more military services and may consist of Navy
Seals, Army Special Forces, Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance, Air
Force Para Rescue and Combat Controllers. Due to the sensitive
nature and the political consequences of the mission in this game,
all members of this squad are officers and will be referred to as
soldiers regardless of which branch of the military they are in.
Because this squad consists of only officers, and no enlisted
personnel to keep them straight, you will probably encounter
complete chaos in trying to determine their location at any
particular time.
