Geocache Description:

This site is east of the Horse Ridge Natural Area at about 4550 ft elevation. A brief 15 minutes climb will take you to the top of the ridge and the multi waypoints. Distance to the cache is 1.6 miles with six GPS waypoints and a final offset True north bearing, not magnetic.

East of Horse Ridge Nature Area

Contents: Sacajawea $1 2000 coin
Butte Falls Laxy Boy Miteymite GeoButton
Glowing Light-Up Sticks
Two large and three small ornamental Easter Eggs/2 baskets
Red Teenie Beenie Baby

Take your magnetic compass as well as the GPS, as the cache is an offset bearing True from the final GPS waypoint (18E declination was used). Allow about 2 hours. This area overlooks the Badlands and has plenty of interesting rock formations and a few rock sheets that have been polished by glaciers. Notice this feature especially after leaving the Outcrop on your way to the Bone Waypoint. Waypoints 2 – 4 require recording the elevation number on the roadside sign as you approach the first waypoint, and also the OHV number at the first waypoint. Record the number you find at the second waypoint for use to find the Bone Waypoint. An afternoon visit is best for the lighting on the Dry River Canyon walls. A nearby mountain bike path leads west and into the Horse Ridge Natural Area.

Car Park:
N43*54.767
W121*00.440
(OHV#) = the two numbers on this sign at the site
Horse Ridge Elevation Sign = KLMN (put in the numbers)
Sum = K + L + M + N = (HRES)

Number on Wall:
N43*54.[(HRES)x(OHV#) + 52]
W121*00.[238 + (OHV#)x(HRES)]
Checksum:
[238 + (OHV#)x(HRES)] - [(HRES)x(OHV#) + 52]= 169 + (HRES)
Save the Number on the Wall for the Bone in Tree waypoint details

Outcrop:
N43*54.[(HRES)x(OHV#) + 96)]
W121*00.[338 + (OHV#)x(HRES)]
Checksum:
[338 + (OHV#)x(HRES)] – [(HRES)x(OHV#) + 96)] = 242
The three buttes to the south are (clockwise) Firestone, East and China Hat.
Enjoy the view.

Bone Waypoint:
Wall Number = ABCD.EF
N43*54.[(A + B) x 111)]
W121*01.[(C + D) x 37) – (D – C)]
Checksum: [(A + B) x 111)] - [(C + D) x 37) – (D – C)] = 544 + (HRES)
Hint: Coordinates for the next waypoint are on a bone.
On a clear day, you can see all the way to Mt. Hood.

SW View:
Find the slate block with final GPS waypoint.

Final Multi Waypoint:
Written on the block above found at SW View

Cache Location:
090 True Bearing at 80 feet from the rock cairn from the coordinates on the slate block
