This is Route 643 in Scott County, VA. Parking is a pull off within
200 feet of the cache. There is no need to go over the bank. The
road is not heavily traveled. A few walkers may be around at times.
The cache is a one quart very well camouflaged container with a
screw type lid. The cache is very well stocked. Bring items to
trade. Please hide back well. This is the top of Copper Ridge.
Three and one half miles to the north is Rye Cove High School. The
large white structure is the football stadium. The school is
located behind. The school is close to the area of the infamous
"Cyclone of Rye Cove." On May 2, 1929 the old Rye Cove School was
leveled by a tornado. One hundred and fifty students and teachers
were inside. Thirteen were killed and dozens were injured. A. P.
Carter composed the song "The Cyclone of Rye Cove" and The Carter
Family recorded it in 1929. Doc Watson has since recorded the song.
