Geocache Description:

A harder puzzle cache for the geocacher who likes a challenge

The above coordinates are bogus. They are for a road intersection, Do not use them in trying to locate this cache.

After seeing how everyone rushes to any new caches placed in our local area, I have decided to make one of a more challenging nature. You will have to solve mathematical logic problems/brainteasers in order to get the coordinates to the actual cache. Each brainteaser is independent of the previous one. Just because you solve one problem in a certain way will have no bearing on how the next one is solved. I also have put some of the answers in groups of two numbers so someone won’t get the bright idea of just trying to plug single numbers in and guessing using the trial and error method.

To even add to the difficulty, I got permission to place this cache on private property. This means the cache will probably be located in an area where you just can’t guess it would be. By being able to locate it this way, you shouldn’t be able to just solve a few of the puzzles and then drive around looking for a public area that is nearby. When you actually get to the cache location, you will think to yourself that there can’t be a cache here, but there is. The only clues that I’m giving are that you can park on the side of a public road within ten feet of the cache and you might just see other people doing maintenance work. Don’t let these people bother you. They already know about the cache. You can park directly in front of the cache which is an ammo box. If you are at an area that doesn‘t fit the previous clues, then you have miscalculated one or more puzzles.

I actually don’t expect a lot of geocachers to find this cache. The ones who do should take pride in their accomplishment, which is why I’m also stocking this cache with more than just the usual trade items. I may add something like a combination lock later, with the combination also being in the form of a brainteaser. I will see how many people find it first before doing this. ENJOY!!!!

TRAVEL BUGS MILEAGE MAY BE INCORRECT:

Just in case anyone gets the idea that I had to locate this cache within a few miles of my listed coordinates at the top of the page. The geocaching rules say that the bogus coordinates should be within a few miles to the actual cache for correct travel bug mileage when they are logged into caches. I got special permission from my approver to post a bogus coordinate that may be a lot more than a few miles away. You need to remember this if placing travel bugs into this cache.

The answers to the following brainteasers will fill these coordinates
N32 AB.CDE
W092 FG.HIJ

You may or may not have to use zeros to fill in some problems

.

Brainteaser # 1: Answer for A

Back during the days of Prohibition, most people belonged to secret clubs or speakeasys if they wanted to buy alcohol. John wanted to get into one that was located near his apartment but he knew that you had to know the correct answer to certain questions to be admitted thru the door. This made sure no cops could sneak inside to see what was going on. John hid in the alley behind some boxes and watched as other people would go to the door. He saw the first person go and knock on the door. He heard a voice behind the door say 12, and the person replied 6. This person was allowed inside. John saw the next person walk up and knock on the door. The voice behind the door said 6 this time. The patron answered back 3. He was allowed in. Well, John knows he’s got it figured out now and boldly walks up to the door. He knocks on it loudly and the voice behind the door says 10. John replies back 5, and the door opens. Two big guys beat up John and throw him out in the street.
What should have been the correct response from John ? This answer will be A in the coordinates.

Brainteaser # 2: Answer for BHC

A clock is observed. The hour hand is exactly at the minute mark, and the minute hand is six minutes ahead of it. Later, the clock is observed again. This time, the hour hand is exactly on a different minute mark, and the minute hand is seven minutes ahead of it. How much time elapsed between the first and second observations? Take the correct answer to this puzzle and it will give you the digits for BHC in the coordinates.

Brainteaser # 3: Answer for DE

A high school has a strange principal. On the first day, he has his students perform an odd opening day ceremony:
There are one thousand lockers and one thousand students in the school. The principal asks the first student to go to every locker and open it. Then he has the second student go to every second locker and close it. The third goes to every third locker and, if it is closed, he opens it, and if it is open, he closes it. The fourth student does this to every fourth locker, and so on. After the process is completed with the thousandth student, how many lockers are open? Take the answer to this puzzle and it will give you the digits for DE in the coordinates.

Brainteaser 4: Answer for FG

Bob, Joe, Sue, and Sam are walking back to their car late at night after geocaching. The path that they are following is not lit, but luckily they have one flashlight to share. Along the way, they come to a long, shaky, bridge that they must cross to get over a river. Bob and Sue are runners and love the thrill of running across the bridge, so Bob can cross the bridge in 1 minute, but Sue is a little slower and can cross in 2 minutes. Sam refuses to run across the bridge, so it takes her 5 minutes to walk the bridge. Joe has a twisted ankle and has to walk slowly, so it takes him 10 minutes to cross the bridge. Only two people can cross the bridge at once; otherwise it might collapse from the weight. If two people cross the bridge at once, they walk or run the bridge at the rate of the slower person so that they can share the flashlight. Anyone crossing the bridge must have the flashlight with him or her; otherwise they cannot see and might fall off of the bridge. The flashlight must be walked back and forth because the bridge is too long to throw the flashlight across.
What’s the shortest time it will take for the Bob, Joe, Sue, and Sam to cross the bridge? Take the answer to this puzzle and subtract four from it. It will give you the digits for FG in the coordinates. Be sure to subtract four from the answer.

Brainteaser # 5: Answer for IJ

Mrs Puffem, a heavy smoker for many years, finally decided to stop smoking altogether. “I’ll finish the twenty-seven cigarettes I have left,” she said to herself, “and never smoke another one.”
It was Mrs Puffem’s practice to smoke exactly two-thirds of each cigarette. It did not take her long to discover that with the aid of some cellophane tape she could stick three butts together to make a new cigarette. With 27 cigarettes on hand, how many cigarettes can she smoke before she gives up the weed forever and becomes addicted to geocaching like the rest of us? Take the answer to this puzzle and reverse the digits for IJ. Make sure to reverse the digits.
