Geocache Description:

This is a nice walk,on good trails in Mira Park on Brickyard Rd.When the Park is open park at the beach area, otherwise parking would be at the park entrance on the Brickyard Rd.

The Cache is located on the site of an old brickyard that was in operation around the early 1900's The plant was in operation for quite a number of years providing bricks for many buildings in the area. Some of these were Sydney Steel plant,The Old Town Hall in Glace Bay,General Hospital in Glace Bay as well as the Old Court House in Sydney.
The Smoke stack and the kilns were still in existence until the formation of the present Provincial Park in the late 60's The evidence of this brickyard can still be seen in the river and under your feet as you find the cache. There are tons of old bricks dumped here (rejects I suppose)Also you may spot lumps of ash from the coal fires kilns.
The day we placed the cache, the River was frozen, but when the ice is gone these bricks are visible in the water and along the shoreline.
