Another (~yawn~) Spectacular Ocean View Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

chaosmanor: Time to fish or cut bait. Or get out of the boat.

Almost 200 Finds is pretty good for a cache like this, so a new listing seems to be the best thing. We live nearly an hour's drive away, now, and that's on a "good" traffic day. Maybe someone closer wants the spot.

Thanks to everyone who came out over the years [:D]

Geocache Description:

Almost a park-and-grab. Call it a park, short walk and grab ;-) It's even short enough for the Ventura_Kids!

Every time we go caching in the Santa Monicas, we find more great views. After a while, one could almost become blasé about them,
right? Gosh, we sure hope not!

The cache is a camo-painted military first-aid box: a little bigger than a decon container. It has the obligatory logbook and a pencil, and has room for a few small items.

Parking isn't too hard; the main rule is, "Don't Block Any Gates!" Parking is legal along here, except for right at the trailhead, which is a white, metal swing-gate. There is room for a car facing downhill, and for several facing uphill, along the shoulder of the road; turning around is quite easy. The first part of the hint tells you which road to use, but if you have the coords in your GPSr when you start off, you won't need the hint; there's only one option.

The trail is a wide, graveled fire/utility road that can be walked, biked or strollered easily. This is not NPS land, nor State Park, nor privately-owned land. There is an abandoned ranch site farther up, but this area is on the edge of an undeveloped municipal park. The neighbors keep an eye on things. There were no signs of teenage parties or homeless camps, and not much trash, so please keep it nice and clean: thank you!

We do not recommend this one at night, mainly because it might disturb the homeowners; there are lots of other places in the mountains to look at the stars.

When we hid the cache, there was a strong off-shore wind, so we could see the Palos Verdes Peninsula, plus Santa Catalina and Santa Barbara islands, and a lot of the South Bay. Yep, just another magnificent view of the ocean; so what else is new?
