Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE WAS PLACED ON THE DAY OF IRAQ'S FIRST FREE ELECTIONS

OPSEC Reminder! (Operational Security)...

GENERAL RULES FOR CACHING IN IRAQ: This cache is in a war zone. It is on a coalition controlled installation; you will need credentials to gain access to the area or you may contact the Public Affairs office for Multi National Forces Iraq (MNFI). Mortars and rockets impact near it. Do not post logs that give any references to what is around it; this might help the rocketeers aim a little better. Do not endanger the brave men and women nearby who are helping to spread liberty. And, think about it for a while if you are going to log it under your usual caching profile. The bad guys use the internet too.

NOTE THE CHANGED COORDINATES; this cache has been relocated a few times.

*About the picture: The Iraqi gentleman in the picture is proudly displaying the ink that proved he voted while also hiding his face for fear of reprisal.

Al Tahreer is the name of this formerly rural sub-district of the western suburbs of Baghdad. Liberty is the camp name, part of the greater Victory/BIAP Compound. It used to be called Victory North. The number suffix indicates how many times the cache as been placed.

Without endangering anyone, it can safely be said that from the area of the cache site you can see one of Saddam’s palaces, a modern day ziggurat-like hill, the minaret of a mosque, and the control tower at Baghdad International Airport (BIAP, or “Buy-op”).

The cache site is a nice place for some quick “R&R” (Rest and Relaxation) and to take a little liberty for yourself. You may go for a refreshing swim or drop a fishing line in a wonderful manmade lake. You can relax to the sound of seagulls and other waterfowl including some looney-looking ducks. You can rest under an umbrella of freedom, so to speak. In my spare time, I am diving in a nearby dump for materials to make a boat from. The other day I found a baby floating in a basket in the reeds. He didn’t look like the people of this river valley so I turned him over to an Egyptian aide worker lady I know.

There are lots of Third Country Nationals (TCNs, please don’t call them Hajjis) and Iraqis hard at work cleaning this place back up that could easily stumble on a cache. If you pass by some of these workers give them a loud and vigourous “Salaam” and you will be rewarded with a crescendo of replies. A cache could easily cause alarm with Military Police (MPs) and Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) folks if not handled properly.

The original contents (were)one each (1 ea) Sanity Survival Kit:

-a penny to remind you someone is thinking of you
-a feather to remind you to take your troubles lightly
-a straw to remind you we all have limits
-a bandaid to remind you to take care of yourself before you reach your limit
-salt to remind you of just how valuable you are
-and sugar to remind you of the sweet things in life

First Finder’s Bonus (was) an un-used Light Load Towel, see:
(visit link) ...These things make it a lot easier to hitchhike around the galaxy ;-)

I wish I had the skills to translate this into Arabic for the people of Iraq, maybe someone can help me out.
