Cache is located in Montalbano natural park, in Carmignano municipality, close to Florence-----La cache e' nel parco naturale del Montalbano, nel comune di Carmignano, vicino a Firenze
The vast territory included in the protected area of Montalbano stretches out over 16,000 hectares . The dominating landscape consists of hills where vineyards continue to be grown near the plain or on terraces, with olives in the higher zones and stands of chestnut trees, a typical example of naturalized vegetation, on the summits. Between the 16th and 17th century about 4000 hectares of Montalbano were set aside by the Medici for the Barco Reale Mediceo, a vast area bounded by a wall, of which little remains, to serve as a hunting reserve. Inside, numerous varieties of trees and bushes were rigorously protected, although it was not until 1700 with the Lorraines that the forestry heritage began to he rationally managed with the rotation of the deforesting and exploitation of the woodlands.
A network of foot and cycle paths cross this territory touching on hill towns almost swallowed up by their green surroundings, archaeological sites, age-old woods such as the holm-oak grove of Pietramarina.
Evidence of a boundary wall which held buildings, perhaps worship places or residences has been found in Pietramarina, on the highest hill of Montalbano. The settlement probably started in the archaic period and continued through the Hellenistic period.

Park your car at N 43°47.109 E 010°59.145 and take the asphalt road jumping to the hill, you could go by car, BUT IS NOT ALLOWED, you enter in a natural park.If you continue the road you are 2 kms far, or you can pass through THE TRAIL (see photo) you find during your walk, from there is not far, you arrive very close.
I reward your efforts putting a couple of nice thing inside the cache.....
If you have the possibility to carry a mountain bike, the trail is very amusing.
Close to the cache there is an Etruscan tumb!

L'area protetta del Montalbano si estende per 16.000 ettari,abbracciando un territorio vastissimo. Il paesaggio dominante è quello collinare con la vite che continua ad essere coltivata vicino al piano o in alcuni terrezzamenti, gli olivi diffusi nelle zone più alte ed i boschi di castagni, tipico esempio di vegetazione indotta, sulle sommità.
Tra il XVI e XVII secolo circa 4000 ettari del Montalbano furono destinati dai Medici alla realizzazione del Barco Reale Mediceo, una vasta area delimitata da un muro perimetrale, di cui ben poco si è conservato, adibita a riserva di caccia. Al suo interno venivano rigorosamente protette le numerose varietà di alberi e arbusti, anche se solo con i Lorena dal 1700 si iniziò a gestire razionalmente il patrimonio boschivo avviando una rotazione nel taglio e nello sfruttamento del bosco.
In questo contesto si snoda una estesa rete di percorsi pedonali e ciclabili che raggiungono località collinari immerse nel verde, siti archeologici, boschi antichissimi come il lecceto di Pietramarina.
Qui, sulla cima più alta del Montalbano, è stata recentemente individuata un' area di interesse archeologico. Potrebbe trattarsi di ambienti di culto come di abitazioni, gli scavi sono tutt' ora in corso. L' insediamento ebbe inizio probabilmente in età arcaica e continuò fino in età ellenistica. Vicino a quest' area, un grosso blocco di pietra con scalini e canalette scalpellate potrebbe far pensare ad un luogo di culto all' aperto di epoca antichissima.

Parcheggiate la macchina a N 43°47.109 E 010°59.145 e prendete la strada asfaltata che sale, potreste andare su in auto, MA E' VIETATO , entrate in un parco naturale. Se percorrete tutta la strada asfaltata, ci sono due km alla cache, oppure passate dal TRAIL ( vedi foto) che incontrerete sulla sinistra durante la vostra camminata, da li' sarete vicini alla cache .
Ho premiato i vostri sforzi mettendo un paio di cose carine dentro la cache. Se avete la possibilità di portare con voi la mountain bike, il cammino e' molto divertente . Vicino alla cache e' visibile una tomba etrusca.
ATTENZIONE, LA DOMENICA IL POSTO E' PIENO DI GENTE, AGITE CON DISCREZIONE!!
