Badger's Retreat Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lactodorum: Hi, this looks like the cache needs some TLC. Could the owner please undertake a maintenance visit to check it out and replace any damaged items. In the meantime I'm archiving it but I'll happily unarchive it if/when it's sorted assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Thanks, Lactodorum

Geocache Description:

In a pleasant area with views over Honiton, much frequent by dog walkers, badgers, pheasants and occasional deer.

In response to recent comments, I have moved the cache to a more difficult spot and changed the colour of the plastic bag to black. No longer in the bomb crater, its now in an unused badger hole (I live nearby and have checked that no creature is resident). Hope this is more of a challenge.

An interestintg article in our local parish newsletter reminds us of events in the area some 60 years ago:
"There were two major (army) camps, one of which we passed every day on our 4 mile walk from Gittisham to school in Honiton. In the woods through which we had to walk the Americans would be performing manouevres - quite scary when the dark nights came in winter .... then suddenly one day in 1944, we passed by what looked like a ghost camp - and it wasn't until the next day that we realised 'D' day was happening". from Winifred White, in the Newsletter of the Evacuess Reunion Association, Dec 2004.

The cache: A plastic tupperware box in plastic bag slightly hidden from view. Assorted contents in the box, with small cache logbook.

There is a car park just off the A375 Sidmouth-Honiton road, with sharp hidden entrance on the left just before the descent to Honiton. The cache is approx. 1/4 mile away.
