GPS Test Station Mystery Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
These coordinates are highly accurate coordinates for a specific point which you can use to test the accuracy of your GPSr.
The cache is located on the University of Utah campus. The location is part of the surveying field, which is located to the west of the Browning Building. You will be looking for a small metal disc on the field. Stamped into it is the designation "E7". These coordinates were translated with surveying equipment; they are accurate to +/- 0.05 feet. You may have to kick around in the grass as it sometimes covers the monument discs.
To get credit for this cache you must go to the point and place your GPSr over the point and make the following notes in your post:
1. The number of satellites you were tracking at the time.
2. The distance and bearing to the point while your GPSr was over the point.
3. (Optional) on garmin receivers there will be and "Estimated Position Error", on Magellan and others there may be a PDOP or DOP reading. PDOP is the Position Dilution of Precision reading. Smaller numbers for PDOP are better. PDOP is similar to Garmin's EPE but is unit less.
NOTE: Be sure you are on the right point; there are a total of about 25 monuments on this patch of grass. Remember the point you are looking for has E7 stamped into it.
PARKING: If you need a place to park I recommend the visitor parking lot at the University Union.

I have updated the coorinates. Recently I used a computer program to take average gps readings over a period of about 3 hours. These new coordinates are verry much the same as the origionals, the only change was on the order of +0.001 min on each the Lat and the Lon. It will be interesting to see if the logs become more accurate.
